Different stages of gum disease and ways to prevent it

Brushing and flossing the teeth isn’t too hard, and doing it correctly can help prevent gum diseases. Gum diseases are the result of bacteria found in plaque and tartar. It is a sticky film that is formed on teeth made of bacteria, mucus food, and other particles. The bacteria found in plaque and tartar cause inflammation of the gums and gingivitis. Once created, a dental hygienist or a dentist can only remove tartar.

Gum diseases have two different stages - gingivitis and periodontitis

· Gingivitis:
It is an early stage of the gum disease that affects the surface layer of the gum, particularly where the gum meets the tooth. Although it doesn’t damage the deeper parts of the gum, teeth or bone, it can develop in an advanced, irreversible form of the disease. However, the good news is that it can be reversed by regular brushing, flossing and dental checkups.

· Periodontitis:
An advanced form of gum disease which may occur when gingivitis is not treated as it should have been. The job of the gums is to provide a protective cover to the bone of the tooth, which anchors the tooth in the place. Periodontitis affects the covering of the tooth, the bone, and the Fibres that connect the tooth to the bone. If it is not treated, it can result in tooth loss and decay. It is better to visit a doctor to treat the disease through proper scaling.

Prevention of Gum diseases:
Where regular brushing is an integral part of maintaining oral hygiene, it is also essential to visit dental facilities such as Eastern Oklahoma dental care or any other that is available in your area.

Here are some ways you can do it:
· Brushing your teeth twice a day before going to bed and in the morning along the gum line to maintain oral hygiene
· Use floss, interdental brushes, or tools recommended by the dentist to clean in between teeth
· Use toothbrush with a small head and soft bristles
· Use a fluoride toothpaste
These are some of the most common pieces of advice that everyone around the world knows and has become a part of our daily routine. However, there some other ways to prevent gum diseases are:
· Quitting smoking if you smoke. Gum diseases are most common among chain smokers as it forms a thin film of tar on the teeth
· For people having diabetes, it is important to keep the blood sugar levels well-controlled to help reduce the risk of gum diseases.

· Avoid sugar intakes and meals in between meals
· Drinking water especially fluoridated when possible.
· Visiting a dentist on a bi-monthly basis to maintain your oral hygiene

Everybody has a range of bacteria in their mouth, which may be a part of food or build up after a long day causing plaque which provides a perfect environment to the bacteria that can cause gum disease. Eating healthy food and maintaining good oral hygiene is the best way to avoid bacteria buildup resulting in gum diseases.
